HVDC Capacitor Device

The basic working principle of a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system is to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) through a rectifier device, transmit the DC power to the receiving-end converter device, and then convert the DC back to AC through an inverter device for integration into the receiving-end AC system.

HVDC transmission technology is mainly applied to large-capacity, long-distance power transmission projects or the interconnection of different power grids.

During operation, rectifiers (inverters) absorb a large amount of reactive power from the system and generate significant harmonics. To address power actor and harmonic issues, capacitor banks are usually installed on the AC side of the rectifier transformer.
